Tyler went to the doctors today. All went well and we learned that Tyler is now 23 1/4 inch long weighing in at 13lbs 2 oz. The nurse said he is in the 100th percentile for his size which we see as a good thing; he’s going to be tall and tough so look out BYU, here comes the next USC LineBacker.
He sat up today for the first time by himself. It was a lot of fun to watch him just sit there looking around at everything. As he would start to tip from side to side he would startle himself and bobble back to the center.
We are slowly starting to regain control of our nights; all of us are sleeping for a few more hours at night than before. Don’t let this confuse you into thinking we get a full 8 hours of sleep. No. We no longer are waking up every 2 hours to feed or rock him, but are now finally waking up after 3 MAYBE 4. Tyler has also recently discovered use of his tongue and hands. At times when we give him his pacifier and he isn’t in the mood he pulls it out almost instantly with his hand. It’s amusing at first because we think it is a mistake and hes just doing it uncontrollably. It isn’t until we repeatedly try to put it back in only to have him take it out do we realize he means business. He is now ‘coo-ing’ and engaging in other baby noises while looking around the room with his tongue out. He does this for almost an entire hour on end with no fussing at all. Sometimes we sneak him into his swing and take a nap during this rare occasion.
We recently purchased a bigscreen TV for our bedroom to keep us entertained while attempting to put him to sleep at night. On some nights we sit in our room and watch random shows in all their vibrant colors with Tyler on our laps or in the boppy staring at the screen and its colors as well. What is interesting is that he never would do this in our family room where the other TV is. He prefers Oprah with mom, MTV with dad and on Sundays Greys Anatomy. Gossip, Music and Drama in just 3 shows. We’re getting him ready for highschool early I suppose.
As Lindsey continues to lose weight I too have had this same desire and am trying to gain her motivation. I have been attending the gym for 3 weeks now and it feels so refreshing even being so sleep deprived. We look forward to bringing Tyler and playing with him in the pool and kids section in the future. Who would have thought the gym could be a fun place?
While dad stepped out of his office, Tyler decided to take over. He was good at the phones, but not the greatest at filing the paperwork. We will let it slide this time.
Tyler can’t wait to field an interception, and he also looks forward to laying a running back out. Sports aside, he enjoys feeling Chino the cat rub her tail on his face. His new found love must be the baby-pouch. Mom loves to strap him to her chest and walk around the house and complex doing her errands. Personally, I have been skydiving one time, and being strapped so close to someone like that was too constraining for me. But Tyler falls asleep as soon as he is in it for hours on end. It’s too bad this nifty device doesn’t work when its really needed; from around the 2am to 6am time period where he is oh-so-cheerful-and-awake.
We are still living in the Sacramento Area, where Lindsey is currently managing our Apartment Complex, the Montelena , and I am doing graphics and websites for clients while waiting to go back to school this next semester. Eminent Clothing is still around and keeps the both of us happily busy as well. Now that Tyler has come around, we’ve found ourselves twice as busy and twice as tired!
Tyler is now 3 weeks old, going on 4, and has gained maybe 6 oz. He is fussy only when he’s hungry and really enjoys his swing which plays ‘cheap’ classical music. I’m trying to replace it with some good rock music to keep him alert. Other than eating and sleeping, he enjoys being held during which he lifts his head up to look around. Since his 2nd day home from the hospital that’s all he seems to want to do whenever we burp him; to just look around and he always manages to find something of interest and stares for countless minutes. His prime awake time still seems to be from 2 am – 5am, and we’ve tried everything possible to sway him off of this schedule. But he insists, and so in the early morning we are usually thumbing through our Tivo’d programs hoping for something worthwhile.
Below are some photos of him ranging from in the hospital to today. You can click on them to see a larger view.
