11 months old!

What a year. It’s been an exciting and eventful year for us, here in Sacramento. After hours of debate, there has been a tie for the #1 event; Governor Schwarzenegger’s re-election or the birth of Tyler V. Toolson on February 10th. Either way, Tyler’s ability to pronounce and annunciate syllables far exceeds that of Schwarzenegger, so we win.

Recently, Tyler came down with a fever (or so we thought). Even though he was passing out, turning red blue and purple, throwing up all over the place, and was generally miserable; after all of this, his temperature was still a mild 104°. Because of our pre-determined “goal” to wait until it reached 104.6° before we took action, we just sat there calmly staring at one another encouraging Tyler to reach his goal.

When 104.6° finally came, we turned the TV off, walked out to the car and drove to the ER maintaining 30 MPH avoiding possible speeding tickets. Upon arrival at the ER, we were whisked away to a room immediately, passing the stabbing, gunshot, near-decapitation wound victims. We had 3 nurses and a doctor waiting on us all, ensuring us a pleasant experience. Within minutes Tyler was diagnosed as having”the croup” and an immediate prescription was handed to us preventing the need of having to wait at a pharmacy for hours.

Sunday. At about 3pm, we noticed a raspy, wheezing, whistling sound. We ignored it for about 7 hours until we determined that this noise was not coming from the heater, but from Tyler. We would have noticed this earlier, had he not been gasping for air so loud causing us the inability to accurately conclude that it wasn’t the heater.

We returned to the ER at about 1:00 am where they had the same bed, 3 nurses and the same doctor awaiting us. They promptly determined that he had a form of “the croup” called “strider”. They promptly gave him a shot and sent us on our way. Well somehow between our 5 minute ER visit and arriving home, 6 hours at elapsed and it was time for me to goto work. Even though none of us had slept, we felt full of energy and joy.

Oh ya, Happy Opposite Day!
