Like Father, Like Son, (and mom?!)

March 27th, 2008 / posted by Jake

I’m the type of person who would rather be cold and use blankets or bundles of clothing to keep myself warm, than it be hot and try to figure out how to keep myself cool. In Holland it would rain 2-3 days a week and each time it did I felt like I was in heaven. There is just nothing more miserable to me than being hot and sweaty and not being able to keep cool. That said, Tyler feels the same way.

Right before he falls asleep he insists on pushing the covers off of his body completely so that his lower body is free. Even if we pull the covers back over him, he’ll kick them off in no time. But who cares right? I do. He’s been doing this for about 6 months now and even though Lindsey and I do the same, I feel he does it on his own because he’s just uncomfortable, not because he’s seen us do it. Interesting how smart kids really are, not that I’ve ever doubted it. Shoot, I always thought I was the only kid with hangnails and therefore thought it was a sign that I would be famous. Turns out everyone has hangnails…

Speaking of which Tyler also really dislikes boogers. He’s the champion of keeping his nose free of them, but he freaks out once they are all over his hands. So much so that he chases us around with the culprit finger extended trying to wipe it all over us. Shoot, he’s literally blown his nose on my head before. Luckily I’ve taught him that mom’s pillow doubles as a towel so all is fine.

Tyler had 3 easter egg hunts within the span of 4 hours and I still don’t think he knew there was candy in the eggs he found. He enjoyed gathering the eggs and placing them in his bucket but after he was done he sort of stared at us probably wondering why we put him through such nonsense.

Tyler : Dude, Businessman, Money Maker

March 21st, 2008 / posted by Jake

Tyler enjoys many things in life. But like his dad, he seems to have a toy of the week. Lately, it’s been phones. In this first video, Tyler is sitting in a cat carrier(new and unused) gabbing away. It reminds me of a Chinese business executive – fast talking, hard to understand, no questions asked, but gets the job done.

Kaitlyn is in the drool/stick-my-feet-in-my-mouth stage which means she keeps herself pretty occupied. Tyler enjoys keeping her happy as well so we look forward to when they will be able to play together. That day can’t seem to come soon enough.

On Sundays, Tyler goes to nursery for 2 of the 3 hours. He absolutely loves at and so do we – we go in there with him because it’s what the cool people do. The other day, they called on Tyler to say a prayer and we started laughing and they didn’t know why. I explained that he was barely 2 so give him a couple more months. They laughed too because they always thought he was a lot older cause he’s just so tall. Hopefully he doesn’t stop growing so that by the time he’s 10 or so, I’ll be able to look up to him and say, “Son… You’ve already accomplished something I never could. Carry on.”

We’re still doing well. I’m going to be putting in some fulltime hours here for Hooper & Toolson, Inc. which will be nice. We haven’t accepted clients for over a year now but within the month we will be, so those interested drop us a line at hooperandtoolson.com. I am still working on finishing the website which should be complete any day now so if it looks weird you know why.

Lately most of Lindsey’s time has been spent getting the rental homes turned over (she’s still a property manager) which has been a bit hectic for her. But she enjoys the flexibility of working for herself so she’s happy.

Tyler’s word of the week: “Oh geez dude.”

Oh, we’re selling both cars. I want a Camaro and Lindsey needs the Pilot so anyone want them?

Tyler turned 2

March 3rd, 2008 / posted by Jake

On February 10th, Tyler turned 2 years old! We counted this birthday as his first official birthday because he actually knew what was happening. Well, he understood he was receiving cake, presents, and lots of attention that is. He’s still picking up on lots of words and phrases so we have to be careful. Ok, I Jake, have to be careful although I’m not sure he knows who I am anymore. I am no longer “dahdah” but rather “dude”. Yup. The best part about it is he’s the only 2 year old who calls his dad dude so there is never any confusion in public places. If Tyler can’t find me, he yells out “dude” and I come running and yell back, “duuuuuuuuuude”. It’s great. Fortunately or unfortunately, he still calls Lindsey “mom.”

Kaitlyn is progressing. She’s in that stage where all she does is smile, giggle, talk to herself, and mess in her diapers. It’s déjà vu all over again. Lucky for us she’s a sleeper so we do get to sleep.

Here in Orangevale, the weather has been absolutely great although I must admit – I know this will last about 2 weeks and then we will once again have to endure the blistering heat and sun as another record-setting summer fast approaches. But hey, for those of you who actually believe global warming is a government conspiracy I hope you enjoy yourself this Summer. When you are wondering why each summer is progressively becoming more hot, the rest of the country will already know the answer. The government is just quick and I’m glad you’re not too naive.  Please pack up your Winnebago’s, head to Area 51 and laugh amongst your comrades about space travel, Jim Morrison, Elvis Presley and other conspiracy theories.  If you’d like to rent the Zapruder film, I have it.  Anyway, our weekends have been great. We open up all the doors and windows in the house and let the wind and cool air come in. We usually try to do some sort of outdoor activity which usually ends up being, “Watch dad drive his new RC car.” The kids and mom love that one.

Finally, as you can see the website has been redone. I was bored. What does this mean for you? Nothing. If you wish to be notified when we add new posts, add your email to our mailing list. If you were previously on the list, then your email was carried over and everything has been taken care of. If you have troubles with navigating the site please let me know. Also, I would like to hear what you think of the new layout. If you’d like it mounted on your wall I can accommodate. Oh and I am slowly moving all the old entries/comments/photos over so be patient. Sseriously.

- Dude.
